Di lives and creates her art in York and returned to painting full time in 2020 upon completion of her Doctorate in Education. Her work was recently exhibited at City Screen Cafe (central York), Partisan Cafe (Micklegate, York), HartLaw Solicitors (Wetherby), Pyramid Gallery (York), Dean Clough Gallery (Halifax), and the Fronteer Gallery (Sheffield).
Di’s oil paintings, on canvas or board and often large in scale, are lyrical responses to landscape and/or the human form. Her approach is one of playful energy with an underlying structure and solidity. Her artistic influences include the work of British and US women abstract expressionists.
After graduating with a BA Hons (Manchester, 1976) she followed a Master of Arts (Birmingham, 1978), and then worked in the design industry for Courtaulds (England) and Jakob Schlaepfer couture fabric design (Switzerland). She has undertaken academic research for a Canada Post Stamp series, received awards from the Scottish Arts Council, the Canadian Craft Council, and was winner of the Grampian Television Prize. Di has undertaken commissions in England and Canada and exhibited her work in group shows (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ottawa and London), and two solo shows (Edinburgh, and Ottawa Canada).
